Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez and Vice President Myron Lizer issued several letters of support to members of Congress last week, supporting a new bill introduced by U.S. Sens. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.), and U.S. Rep. Norma Torres (D-Calif.) that would replace Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples’ Day as a federally recognized holiday on the second Monday of October.
