Evacuations expand for Pipeline Fire; new Haywire fire and prompts more evacuations

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - The US Forest Service is battling another fire in the area north of Flagstaff near Sunset Crater National Monument. The fire is in the area of Haywire Crater just east of Sunset Crater Road. After consultation with the US Forest Service resources managing the fire, the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office ordered a “GO” evacuation of the area north and east of that area.

The area affected is commonly known as Alpine Ranchos. The boundaries for the “GO” evacuation are west of Luepp Road, south of the Navajo Reservation boundary, north of Forest Road 244a, and east of Sunset Crater Road (Forest Road 545). The residents in this area are encouraged to gather necessary belongings and quickly leave the area. CCSO deputies will be conducting security and door to door notifications of the area.

The existing GO status has been expanded from Timberline area north on Highway 89 to Sacred Mtn Trading Post and EAST to the Navajo Nation border. EVACUATE NOW.

Expanded GO area in Crater Estates area. All areas North of Forest Service Road 244, East of FS 545, North and West of Leupp Road and east to the Navajo Nation is on GO status.

The area north of Sacred Mtn Trading Post to Sinagua Trading Post near Antelope Hills and EAST to Navajo Nation border is now in SET status. Prepare to evacuate if ordered. Follow official news and official social media for additional information.

There are very strong winds forecasted for today, which will adversely affect the rate of spread for the Haywire Fire. The US Forest Service has several resources on the fire, attempting to slow the rate of spread.

An evacuation shelter has been set up at the Sinagua Middle School. An animal evacuation shelter has been set up at the Ft. Tuthill County Park.
