Holbrook house fire caused by appliance; homeowner receives 2nd and 3rd degree burns
HOLBROOK, Ariz. — On Oct. 26, around 12:20 a.m., Navajo County Sheriff’s Office and fire personnel responded to a house fire and report of a severely burned man at the Silver Lake Estates in Holbrook.
Upon arrival firefighters and law enforcement found the home fully engulfed in flames. Deputies located the victim and homeowner, Timothy Wright, 54, at a neighbor’s house. Wright said he was asleep and woke to his house on fire but was able to escape through his bedroom window and go next door for help.
Wright was treated for his injuries and rushed to the local hospital. He was later flown to a burn unit in Maricopa County. Wright received severe second and third degree burns on more than 50 percent of his body.
Because of the cold weather, the cause of the fire was investigated Oct. 28. Navajo County Sheriff’s Detectives were assisted by fire investigators from Gilbert Fire Department, Snowflake/Taylor Fire and Timber Mesa Fire. Investigators have determined the fire originated in a household appliance.
Wright is currently in critical condition in a Phoenix area hospital, his prognosis is unknown at this time.
“My sincere condolences to Mr. Wright for serious injuries he has received and the loss of his home,” said Navajo County Sheriff David Clouse. “I appreciate the quick response of our deputies and the Timber Mesa Fire Department. A special recognition to the Gilbert Fire Department and ATF for their rapid response, excellent support and expertise in determining the cause of the fire.”
