Winslow Lady Bulldogs softball fall in tournament, lose to Page

WINSLOW, Ariz. — The Winslow Lady Bulldogs lost to the Henderson, Nevada Coronado Lady Cougars 8-7 March 6 in the Tournament of Champions at Bullhead City.

Winslow started strong with five runs in the top of the first inning but gave up three in the bottom of the frame. Winslow increased the lead to 7-3 in the second inning only to be tied 7-7 in the bottom of the fourth and see the Lady Cougars win the game in the bottom of the fifth and last inning.

On March 7, the Lady Bulldogs were shutout and defeated by the Cienega Lady Bobcats 11-0.

Cienega scored seven runs in the second inning and four in the third of a game that only lasted four innings.

On March 10, the Lady Bulldogs went to Page and dropped a 4-2 decision to the Page Sand Devils to fall to 1-3 for the young season.

Page scored a run in each of the first two innings and two in the fourth. The Lady Bulldogs scored twice in the top of the seventh and final inning. Winslow used two pitchers, McKenzie Flores and Taylor Butterfield, both gave up two runs, while McKenzie gave up three hits and Butterfield one.

The runs off Butterfield were unearned.

Winslow had 10 hits led by Jaylynn Sharp’s three for three. Shasha Medina was one for one. Desbah White was two for three. Shea Hanson was two for four. Brooke Williams and Alexis Smith were one for four. Page did not provide individual statistics.

Winslow was slated to host the River Valley Lady Dust Devils on Wednesday and go to Window Rock March 17. They will stay on the road at Camp Verde on Thursday, March 19 and at Flagstaff March 24.

The next home game is March 25 against Tuba City.
