Sloan appointed to Tuba City Governing Board

TUBA CITY, Ariz., — Coconino County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Tommy Lewis announced the appointment of Harriett Sloan as a Governing Board member of Tuba City Unified School District #15.

Sloan has nearly thirty-eight years of experience in the Tuba City United School District Education System including positions as a teacher, guidance counselor and administrator. She served as the Principal of Tuba City Jr. High School from 2010-2015 and collective sixteen years in administrative work with the Tuba City School District.

“We look forward to Harriett joining the Tuba Unified School District Board,” Lewis said. “We were extremely fortunate to have several qualified people apply for the position. Harriet’s experience in the classroom and in her community made her the clear choice. As someone who has spent a career dedicated to education and teaching our children, her voice on the Board will be invaluable.”

As a member of the board, Sloan will focus on student enrollment, student achievement, teacher morale and retainment of teachers. Sloan plans to continue promoting programs for students and families which encourage team teaching, collaborative planning and incorporating student interest and activities with common goals.

Sloan is a graduate of NAU with a Master of Education in Guidance and Counseling. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary and Special Education. Sloan’s term will end Dec. 31.
