WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. — On Jan. 25, Navajo Nation Shopping Centers, Inc. (NNSCI) Board of Directors chose Nicholas Taylor as the corporation’s new chief executive officer (CEO).

Taylor, who served as the general manager, succeeds Nathaniel Begay who retired at the beginning of the year.

“Mr. Taylor was selected as CEO because he has shown the initiative and skills needed to advance the organization. The Board is confident that as CEO he will lead the NNSCI team into increasing benefits for Navajo businesses and community members,” indicated the Board during their regular meeting.

“It is motivating to see an educated Naat’aanii such as Nick with his cultural and professional knowledge, come back and share his expertise with our community. I am looking forward to working with him to achieve new developments,” said Felisha Adams, board chairperson.

Taylor holds a master’s in Business Administration with a concentration in corporate finance and a Bachelor of Science in Regional Development, both from the University of Arizona. He joined NNSCI as the general manager in January 2019 and oversaw various aspects of corporate operations and strategy implementation.

“NNSCI has a vital role with improving the retail economy on the Navajo Nation and I am committed to fulfilling the corporate mission” Taylor said.

Begay, who retired Jan. 2, expressed his confidence in the board’s choice.

“Nick is an amazing, hard-working individual and I am glad the board selected him and allowed for a smooth transition,” he said.

The selection of Taylor is a result of a CEO succession plan enacted by the Board of Directors in 2018 an implemented in 2019.

NNSCI is an enterprise of the Navajo Nation that was created in 1983 by the Navajo Nation Council and was incorporated in 2003. Currently, there are 10 shopping center properties across the Navajo Nation located at: Navajo Pine, Pinon, Dilkon, Kayenta, Tuba City, Window Rock, St. Michaels, Pinehill, Shiprock and Crownpoint.
