Winslow Lady Bulldogs win five, lose two at Payson tournament

WINSLOW, Ariz. - The Winslow Lady Bulldogs won five games and lost two at the Gracie Haught Tournament in Payson March 18-19.

The results left Winslow with a 13-5 record for the season. The Lady Bulldogs lost to Apache Junction 4-0 in the first of three games March 18. They then defeated Round Valley 11-2 and Bradshaw Mountain 10-5. On March 19 the Lady Bulldogs lost to Benson 6-5 but came back to beat Show Low 8-5, Flagstaff 13-1 and Estrella Foothills 7-6.

In the 4-0 loss to the Apache Junction Lady Prospectors, Justine Butterfield took the loss giving up three runs on three hits and two walks in two innings of work.

Sherreise Beaty worked three innings and gave up a run on four walks. K. Pettis Miller shut out the Lady Bulldogs on just three hits. Kelley McKinley was the batting star for Apache Junction with a home run and a double in three trips to the plate. Sierra Wilcox led Winslow with two for two and Beaty was one for one.

In the 11-2 win over the Round Valley Lady Elks Beaty got the win working four innings and giving up two runs on four hits in four innings. Morgan Thomas was two for two for the Lady Bulldogs. Gabby Gonzalez was two for three with a home run. Beaty was one for two with a triple. Sierra Wilcox, Alicia O'Haco and Alyssa Barton were one for three with Barton having a double.

In the 10-5 win over the Bradshaw Mountain Lady Bears, Butterfield got the win giving up five runs, only four of which were earned, on eight hits and a walk. Harleigh Scott led the Lady Bulldogs at the plate with a three for three day including a triple. Gonzalez, Smith, O'Haco and Wilcox were two for three with Wilcox and Smith having doubles. Hailee Branson and Butterfield were one for three with Branson hitting a double.

In the 6-5 loss to the Benson Lady Bobcats on Saturday, Benson took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first but Winslow scored three in the bottom of the first ad two in the second.

Benson plated one in the third inning, tied the score with two in the fourth and scored the winning run in the fifth.

Butterfield gave up four runs on three hits and four walks in four and two thirds innings. Beaty gave up two runs on a hit and an error in a third of an inning. Winslow only had four hits. O'Haco was two for three with a double. Gonzalez and Wilcox were one for two with Gonzalez connecting for a double.

In the 8-5 win over the Show Low Lady Cougars, Butterfield got the win giving up three runs on a hit and a walk. Beaty gave up two runs on three hits and a walk. Gonzalez, Smith and Wilcox were two for three at the plate with Gonzalez having a double. Butterfield was one for two with a double and Thomas was one for three.

In the 13-1 win over the Flagstaff Lady Eagles, Beaty allowed just three hits for the victory. Hailee Branson was three for three with two home runs.

Wilcox was two for two. O'Haco was one for one. Gonzalez was two for three with a double. Thomas, Scott and Beaty were one for two.

In the 7-6 win over the Estrella Foothills Lady Wolves, D. Kinlicheenie got the win with relief from Beaty. Smith led the Lady Bulldogs at the plate with two for two including a home run and three runs batted in. Gonzalez and O'Haco were one for two with Gonzalez knocking out a home run. Branson was one for three.

The Lady Bulldogs played host to Greenway March 29 and will be at Ironwood on Thursday and at Coconino in Flagstaff Saturday.
