Lady Bulldogs fall to Page, Bulldogs pull out 68-60 win

WINSLOW, Ariz. - The Page Lady Sand Devils defeated the Winslow Lady Bulldogs 59-36 in the first varsity game at Winslow Jan. 2 but the Winslow Bulldogs came back to win the boys' game 68-60 to gain a split of the varsity games.

The Page Lady Sand Devils defeated the Winslow Lady Bulldogs 59-36 in the first game of the year for the home team. Page improved its record to 12-3 and Winslow dropped to 7-8 for the season.

Page opened the game with an impressive first quarter in which they established a 17-2 lead. The margin was 32-15 at the half and 47-25 at the end of the third quarter.

Ashley Dempsey was the only Lady Sand Devil in double figures with 10 points but Natasha Henry, Myka Taliman and Kaitlynn Begay all had nine points each for Page, which had 10 players score.

Jaycey Sangster led Winslow and all scorers with 11 points. Jenna Yazzie with eight points and Lynnae Mitchell with six were the only Lady Bulldogs with more than four points and only seven scored.

The Lady Bulldogs will play Valley Christian in Chandler Jan. 6. The Bulldogs boys' team will entertain Valley Christian that night.

In the second varsity game of the night, the Winslow Bulldogs defeated the Page Sand Devils 68-60 in their first game of 2016. The win improved their season record to 11-4 and dropped Page to 7-7.

The first quarter ended with the score tied 12-12. Page had a 32-25 lead at the half but Winslow tied the score six minutes into the third quarter and led 44-43  entering the final period.

Dalvin Benally led all scorers with 17 points for Winslow. The Bulldogs had two other players in double figures in Nathan Hanley with 14 points and Nathan Hollins with 13 points. Justin Billy led Page with 16 points and Noah Larson with 12 points and Blue Eyes Quiver with 11 points were also in double figures for the Sand Devils.

The Lady Bulldogs will be in Kayenta on Friday to meet the Monument Valley Lady Mustangs while the boys will play host to the Mustangs in Winslow.
