Winslow Bulldog wrestlers second in State to Morenci

WINSLOW, Ariz. - The Winslow High School wrestling team came in second in the Arizona State Division IV Wrestling Championship Tournament behind first place Morenci.

Morenci won the title easily with 208.5 points to 136 for second place Winslow. St. Johns was third with 134.5 points. Benson was fourth at 132. Camp Verde at 102.5 was the last team of the 46 competing with more than 100 points.

Winslow had one state champion when Ahli Foster won the 195 pound division by winning all four of his matches, three of them by pinning his opponent.

Quincy Foster was the only second place finisher from Winslow, finishing there in the 126 pound division. He won his first three matches and lost a decision in the championship match.

Winslow had three third place finishers in Michael Dinsmore in the 138 pound division and Quentin Begody in the 220 pound division. Dinsmore won his first two matches then lost the eventual second place finisher before winning the match for third place. Begody won his first two matches before losing to Xavier Villalobos of Florence whom he beat in a rematch for third place later.

Darrien Brown was Winslow's only fourth place winner finishing there in the 160 pound division. He won his first three matches before losing to the eventual second and third place finishers in his division.

Blane Foster was Winslow's only fifth place finisher, placing there in the 120 pound division. He won his first match before losing his second to the eventual champion of his division. He next lost to the eventual third place finisher before winning the match of fifth place in the division.

Winslow had two sixth place finishers in the state tournament in Preston Greenwood in the 170 pound division and Preston Betoney in the 113 pound division. Betoney won his first two matches before losing to the eventual fourth place finisher and the fifth place finisher. Greenwood won his first two matches before losing to the eventual second place finisher and to the eventual fourth and fifth place finishers.
