Outdoor Holiday Bazaar/Carnival Nov. 15

An outdoor holiday bazaar/carnival will take place Nov. 15 in Polacca, Arizona. The event is a great place to get an early start on holiday shopping while enjoying great food, music, games and arts and crafts. Limited Service at Department of Self-Reliance Nov. 16-18.

The Department of Self-Relance (DSR) offices will close at noon Nov. 16 and remain closed until Nov. 18 for their bi-annual general staff meeting. Normal business hours will resume Nov. 19.

The DSR support services office in Window Rock, Arizona will offer limited services during that time. People may call (866) 347-2403 or (928) 810-8553 if they need services.

Customers are encouraged to contact their caseworkers prior to these dates regarding their case.

Public hearings on transfer of authority of 32 BIE schools to Navajo

Dr. Tommy Lewis, superintendent of schools, is set to convene five public hearings on the Sovereignty in Indian Education Grant pertaining to the transfer of authority of 32 Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) operated schools to Navajo. The hearings began next Nov. 9 and end Nov. 16 at the following locations.

Nov. 9 - SASI, Shiprock, New Mexico

Nov. 10 - T'iists'oozi Community School, Crownpoint, New Mexico

Nov. 12 - Many Farms High School auditorium, Many Farms, Arizona

Nov. 13 - Grey Hills Academy High School auditorium, Tuba City, Arizona

Nov. 16 - DODE auditorium, Window Rock, Arizona

All BIE operated schools, contract and grant schools, school board members, school administrators and the public are invited to attend the public hearings at any of the locations.

The purpose of the public hearings are to receive public comments on the transfer of authority of 32 BIE Operated Schools to Navajo.

The public hearings - dates and locations - comply with the 2005 Navajo Sovereignty in Education Act.
