Winslow Bulldogs top Snowflake for sixth straight win, knocked out of playoffs in first round
WINSLOW, Ariz. - The Winslow Bulldogs baseball team ended its regular season with a 6-3 win over the Snowflake Lobos in Winslow April 29.
The victory was the sixth straight for the young Bulldogs and ended the team's regular season with a 14-13-1 record. They were to meet the Rio Rico Hawks on May 2 in the first round of the state tournament. Rio Rico finished the season with a 16-10 record.
Matt Ramos went the distance for the win giving up three runs on four hits and six walks. He fanned seven Lobos.
Snowflake scored two runs in the top of the first inning on two walks and two hits. Winslow rallied in the bottom of the frame to plate three runs and take a 3-2 lead. Rey Chavez-Velez, Ramos and K.C. Clay singled along with Kuster Kinlicheenie in the rally.
Snowflake tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the second inning on a walk and at triple. Winslow regained the lead 4-3 in the bottom of the second without a hit. Blane Foster and Darrien Brown walked and there were two wild pitches that led to the score.
The Bulldogs got two important insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Chance Dick singled and Nick Marquez, Foster and Chavez-Velez walked.
Clay was two for four at the plate. Chavez-Velez, Kinlicheenie and Dick were all one for two. Ramos was one for three.
Winslow lost 2-0 to Rio.
