The first Winslow Public Library summer event was a calf roping demonstration. Mikenzie Alcott, this year's Winslow High School Miss Winslow Native American, and her family played host to the event. The Alcott family has a tradition of calf roping and competing and winning in rodeos. Mikenzie, her brother Breitt and her father were the instructors for the June 2 tutorial at the Winslow Library. About 30 young buckaroos showed up to learn calf roping from the experts. Shade was provided as well as ice water to tame thirsts and keep people cool.
