POLACCA, Ariz. -The Winslow Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs soundly defeated the Hopi Bruins and Lady Bruins Jan. 6 in Polacca.
The games were both decided early and were not close.
In the first varsity game, the Lady Bulldogs defeated the Hopi Lady Bruins 65-46 and improved their record to 12-3 for the season. Winslow had a 15-10 lead after the first quarter of play. The lead increased to 30-18 by the intermission and was a 20-point 48-28 margin after three quarters of play. All but one Lady Bulldog scored led by Lynnae Mitchell with 12 points. Shandiin Armao was also in double figures for Winslow with 11 points and Jaycey Sangster scored nine for the winners. Jennaya Day led Hopi with nine points.
The Winslow boys defeated Hopi 64-27 to improve their record to 9-3. The Bulldogs led 16-7 after the first period and were up by a commanding 36-11 at the half.
The margin was 54-19 after three quarters of play. All 12 Winslow players scored during the game. Akkeem Foster led Winslow with 11 points. Trelonnie Sanders scored nine and all 12 Bulldogs scored two or more points.
Hopi had only six players score and none were in double figures. Neil Silas led the Bruins with nine points.
The Winslow junior varsity boys won a close overtime game from Hopi 58-53 but the Winslow junior varsity girls were beaten 48-43 by the Hopi junior varsity girls. Both Winslow teams will play Mingus at Mingus Jan. 19.
