Lady Bulldogs come from behind for win against Holbrook Lady Roadrunners

WINSLOW, Ariz. - The Winslow and Holbrook basketball teams split varsity games in Winslow Jan. 27. Winslow won the girls' game 47-45 despite trailing much of the way. The Holbrook Roadrunner boys' team edged Winslow 62-59 in the nightcap.

The Winslow Lady Bulldogs' win improved Winslow's record to 19-4 for the season. Holbrook fell to a still highly impressive 18-7.

The Lady Roadrunners started strong with a successful pressing defense that caused many turnovers and led 17-4 after the first quarter and 29-17 at the half. Winslow rallied and cut the deficit to 37-33 by the end of the third quarter and managed to pull out the narrow 47-45 victory in the final period.

Quanyyah Lester of Holbrook led all scorers with 15 points while Teyah Goldtooth was also in double figures for the Lady Roadrunners. Kaelyn Bitsoi led Winslow with 12 points. Shandiin Armao was also in double figures for the Lady Bulldogs and Jaycey Sangster and Ashleigh Johnson each scored eight.

The Holbrook Roadrunners won the boys' game 62-59. Holbrook led 18-14 after the first quarter and 31-29 at the half and 45-40 after three quarters. Winslow closed the gap in the final period but came up short. The win improved Holbrook's record to 20-6 for the season and dropped Winslow's to 17-5.

Akkeem Foster led Winslow and all scorers with 18 points. Tylon Yazzie was also in double figures for the Bulldogs with 14 points. Trelonnie Sanders had eight points for the Bulldogs. Holbrook had three players in double figures led by Marlin Martin with 16 points. Sylas Chevarillo scored 15 points for the Roadrunners ad Marcux Begaii tallied 11 points. Abrain Dickson scored eight points for Holbrook.
