Shonto Preparatory School kicks off prep for AzMERIT test with school-wide rally

SHONTO, Ariz. - Shonto Preparatory students participated in an assembly where teachers discussed the importance of doing their best on the AzMerit test. Shonto is one of the few schools on the Navajo Reservation that is taking the computer-based test.

The teachers distributed a "Test Taking First Aid Kit" for each student to take home. Inside were various items including a pack of Smarties candies to boost test taking brain power. On two different Saturday's, the middle school students voluntarily reported to school to get more preparation for the AzMERIT Test.

"We are so proud of our students", said the new principal, Mr. Fout. According to the data, test scores in reading and math have been increasing over the past years. A data wall is by the front office showing scores for all grade levels.
