Summer youth opportunities and Devil Pups try-outs in June

Career Incentive Training, interviews for the Summer Youth Employment and Devil Pups tryouts will take place at the following locations:

June 3, 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. for Coppermine, Lechee Chapters at Lechee Chapter House;

June 4, 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. for Kayenta, Oljato, Chilchinbeto and Dennehotso at Kayenta Township;

June 5, 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. for Leupp, Tolani Lake and Birdsprings Chapters at Leupp Chapter House;

June 9, 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. for Navajo Mountain, Inscription House, Kaibeto and Shonto Chapters at Inscription House Chapter House;

June 11, 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. for Coalmine Mesa, Tuba City, Cameron and Gap/Bodaway Chapters at Tuba City Chapter House.

To be eligible for employment all applicants must be an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, be 14 to 24 years of age, enrolled in high school, college or vocational tech institute, have definite plans to continue education, one family member per household and they must attend the career incentive training.

Devil Pups program is a non profit organization designed to help boys and girls from all backgrounds to gain self confidence and learn to take responsibility for their actions. The program is a demanding physical and academic good citizenship program for young teenagers. The qualified participants will attend the 10-day camp that will provide challenge, teamwork, discipline and education for boys and girls between the ages of 14-17.

All participants must be healthy, must pass a physical test (sits ups, push ups, pull ups and one-mile run), need current physical exams, valid census number, and cannot be on any type of medications or have asthma.

Western Navajo Agency youth 12 and under boys and girls playoffs take place May 10.

The location is to be announced. The entry fee is $100.

The top winners will move on to the Navajo Nation finals.

Circus in Winslow May 13

The Winslow Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a presentation of the Carson and Barnes Circus in Winslow, Arizona on May 13.

The giant circus tent will be erected circus morning in the open space to the west of the Chamber/Visitor Center on Second Street.

Two performances are scheduled for 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend both but separate tickets are required.

Market on the Move to visit Killip Elementary May 7

Market on the Move is coming to Killip Elementary School on today from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. For a $15 donation, people can get as many as 60 pounds of fresh produce.

Support from the community will help rescue over 30 million pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables from going to waste every year, help to distribute produce to more than 460,000 families in need, and feed nutritional fruits and vegetables to about 920,000 children.

Hopi High Summer Food Service begins June 2

The Hopi Jr./Sr. High School Summer Food Service program will go from June 2 through June 26 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Hopi Jr./Sr. High School cafeteria. Meals will be served Monday through Thursday.

Meals are served to all children, ages 18 and younger, without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability - there is no discrimination in the course of meal service.

Career day May 10

Ts'ah Bii Kin Chapter is sponsoring an Education and Career Day on May 10 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. All activities will take place at the Ts'ah Bii Kin Chapter. The day is geared toward grades 6-12 and will consist of motivational speakers, information tables from area colleges and employers. Participants will receive a free lunch. The goal for this day is to introduce students to various career fields and colleges. Registered participants will have an opportunity to win a tablet or other prizes.
