Winslow Bulldogs break three game losing streak with win against Monument Valley
WINSLOW, Ariz. - The Winslow Bulldogs defeated the Monument Valley Mustangs 79-66 in a basketball game played in Winslow Jan. 25. The win improved Winslow's record to 16-10 for the season and broke a three game losing streak.
Monument Valley led 22-19 after a high scoring first quarter, but the Bulldogs rallied and led by a single point 39-38 at the half. Winslow used a good third quarter to take a double-digit 55-44 lead into the final period and held on for the victory.
Clayton Yazzie led all scorers with 33 points for Monument Valley. Redmond Delmar was also in double figures for the Mustangs with 11 points and Ty Phillips scored nine points, but only seven Mustangs scored.
Winslow had four players in double figures led by Stevin Nelson with 19 points. Frank Kelly scored 18 points for the Bulldogs and both Trelonnie Sanders and Demetrius Games tallied 12 points. Eight Bulldogs scored, half of them in double figures.
The Blue Ridge Yellowjackets defeated the Winslow Bulldogs 65-57 in a basketball game played in Lakeside Jan. 24. The loss dropped Winslow's record to 15-10 for the season and was the third loss in a row for the Bulldogs.
Blue Ridge had a 16-10 lead after the first quarter which the Bulldogs cut to 31-28 by the intermission. The Yellowjackets had increased the margin to 50-41 by the end of the third quarter and held on for the victory in the final frame.
Chris Williams led all scorers with 27 points for Blue Ridge. McKay Berges was also in double figures for the Yellowjackets with 19 points. Kelly led Winslow with 17 points and Sanders was also in double figures for the Bulldogs with 12 points.
