Winslow Bulldogs, Lady Bulldogs crush Alchesay Falcons

WINSLOW, Ariz. - The Winslow Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs both enjoyed great success against the severely over matched Alchesay Falcons and Lady Falcons. Both teams won easily in games shortened to five innings on the mercy rule.

The Winslow Bulldogs baseball team defeated the Alchesay Falcons 18-2 in Winslow April 22. The win left the Bulldogs with a record of 16-8 going into a game against the Show Low Cougars in Show Low the next day.

The Bulldogs journey to Snowflake to end the regular season against the Snowflake Lobos April 30.

Caleb Cirre got the win over Alchesay working four innings and giving up two runs, only one of which was earned, on just two hits, a hit batter and a walk. He fanned five.

His brother Matt Cirre worked the final inning of the game, which was called under the mercy rule after five innings, and did not allow a run on no hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

Winslow scored six runs in the first inning on five hits and two walks. Henry Montiel had two doubles in the inning. Rey Chavez Velez had a triple and Adrian Montoya and C. J. Chacon each had a single in the rally in which one batter reached base on a wild pitch strikeout.

The Bulldogs plated seven runs in the third inning for a 13-0 lead. Montiel hit his third double of the game in that inning and Chacon knocked out a home run. Montoya hit a double and there were two hit betters and a walk.

Alchesay scored twice in the top of the fourth inning on a walk, a double and a Winslow error.

The Bulldogs ended the scoring with a five run bottom of the fourth inning on a single by Caleb Cirre, a triple from Corum, a single by Devon Flanagan, a walk and six Alchesay errors.

Montiel was three for three with three doubles. Chacon was two for two with a home run. Chavez-Velez was two for two. Caleb Cirre and Flanagan were one for one. Matt Cirre was two for three with a triple. Montoya was two for four with a double. Corum was one for three with a triple.

In the Lady Bulldogs' game against Alchesay, Taylor Baca and Ceyanne Benally held the Lady Falcons to just one hit and two base runners in the game which was shortened to five innings on the mercy rule.

Winslow scored 19 runs in the first inning, 15 of them before an out was recorded.

The Lady Bulldogs are slated to meet the Snowflake Lady Lobos at Snowflake today. That will end the regular season and state playoffs will begin.
