Payson hands Lady Bulldogs first defeat

WINSLOW, Ariz. - The Winslow Lady Bulldogs softball team lost for the first time this season 2-0 to the Payson Lady Longhorns in Payson April 8. The loss came after Winslow won 19 straight games and left them with a 19-1 record.

Payson hurler Arissa Paulson shutout the Lady Bulldogs on just three hits and no walks while striking out 14 batters. The Lady Longhorns scored both of their runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Payson also had only three hits.

Paulson had a double and the only run batted in of the game in three plate appearances. She also had a stolen base. Payton Peterson and Sadie Dunman were also one for three for the Lady Longhorns. Winslow committed two errors with one leading to an unearned run.

Taylor Baca pitched well for Winslow allowing just two runs, one of which was earned on just three hits and three walks with four strikeouts. Halle Hayes had two of Winslow's hits and Renee Bollin the other.

Winslow Coach Kelli Fifelski said that both pitchers pitched well and that Paulson threw an exceptional game against the Lady Bulldogs.

The Lady Bulldogs play host to the Flagstaff Lady Eagles on Thursday.
