Winslow softball and baseball teams beat Coconino High School rivals

WINSLOW, Ariz. - The Winslow High School baseball and softball teams both enjoyed successful trips to Flagstaff March 28 when each walked away with a victory over their Coconino Panther and Lady Panther rivals.

Lady Bulldogs 10 - Coconino Lady Panthers 9

The Winslow Lady Bulldogs softball team stayed unbeaten with a 10-9 win over the Coconino Lady Panthers. The win was Winslow's 17th of the season without a defeat.

Taylor Baca got the win working three innings and giving up two runs, only one of which was earned, on four hits. Richelyn Villanueva finished the game in relief and gave up seven runs, six of which were earned, on 10 hits and a walk.

Winslow took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning and was up 6-4 after three innings. Coconino jumped ahead 7-6 in the fifth inning but Winslow tied it in the top of the sixth only to fall behind 9-7 in the bottom of that frame. The Lady Bulldogs tied the game 9-9 in the top of the seventh and scored the winning run in the top of the eighth.

Halle Hayes was three for four with a double to lead Winslow at the plate. Baca, Villanueva and Hailee Branson were all two for five with Branson and Baca hitting doubles. Liz Lozano, Renee Bollin and Megan Lymer were one for five.

Bulldogs 10 - Coconino Panthers 2

The Winslow Bulldogs defeated the Coconino Panthers 10-2 in a baseball game played in Flagstaff March 28. The win left the Bulldogs with a 10-3 record for the season.

Kuster Kinlicheenie went the distance for the win giving up two runs on nine hits with no walks and nine strikeouts.

Winslow took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a double from Henry Montiel and a home run from Colton Corum. Coconino cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the first on a walk and two singles by Brant and Bryan Chapin and tied the score in the third inning on a home run by Brant Chapin.

The Bulldogs went ahead 4-2 in the top of the fourth on singles by Corum and Jon Bollin, a walk and a Panther error. A four-run fifth inning put the Bulldogs up comfortably 8-2 on singles from Caleb Cirre, Vincenzio Sells, Montiel and Corum, two walks and an error. The final two runs came in the top of the sixth on a walk and singles by Matt Cirre, Bollin and Adrian Montoya.

Corum was three for four at the plate with a home run. Bollin was two for three. Montiel was three for five with a double and a triple. Caleb Cirre was one for three. Vincenzio Sells, Matt Cirre and Montoya were all one for four.
