Hopi tribal elections set for Nov. 6

Eight candidates to vie for Chairman position including Shingoitewa

KYKOTSMOVI, Ariz. - A total of eight candidates for chairman of the Hopi Tribe and four candidates for vice chairman will face off Nov. 6 on the Hopi reservation in a primary election.

The Hopi Election Board qualified the candidates to run for the offices.

People can vote at 11 polling sites on the Hopi Reservation. The only village which chose not to have a polling site was the Village of Oraibi. The rest of the villages will have a polling site. The community of Spider Mound has decided to have a polling site for their residents for the first time in Hopi Tribal Elections.

The Hopi Election Board encourages all eligible voting members to come out and participate in the election. All polls will open at 7 a.m. MST and close at 7 p.m.

Canvassing headquarters will be at the Hopi Veterans Memorial Center, Kykotsmovi, Ariz. beginning after all of the election ballots have been delivered to the canvassing site.
