Fall carnival Nov. 1

A fall carnival takes place Nov. 1 from 5-10 p.m. at the Hopi Veteran's Memorial Center in Kykotsmovi off Highway 264, mile post 375.5. Booth space is available with a food handler's card and peddlers permit. More information is available at (928) 734-3432 from 8 a.m.-5p.m.

St. Jude Parish Homecoming and picnic

The parishioners of St. Jude Catholic Church in Tuba City, Ariz. extend an invitation to all former parishioners and friends of St. Jude to join in the annual parish picnic.

Catholic Mass will begin at 11 a.m. Oct. 27, with the picnic after.

Church leaders will unveil a new outside parish mural and sign.

Navajo County to assist residents in obtaining birth

certificates

Navajo County Public Health Services District can assist area residents with hospital born Arizona birth certificates. The Health District can provide Arizona birth certificates for children born from 1950 to the present for $20 to eligible individuals or parents. The Health District is not able to assist with delayed birth certificates, adoptions, amendments or corrections to births occurring prior to 1997. Information about those issues is available from the Arizona Department of Health Services, Office of Vital Records.

The Health District can only process birth certificates from the Holbrook office. In order to further assist area residents, the Vital Records Office travels to other locations. If the Health District is able to process the birth certificate, it is mailed to residents from the Holbrook office.

The Vital Records Specialist will be at the Navajo County Justice Court office on U.S. Highway 160 in Kayenta Nov. 7 from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Only money orders are accepted. Valid government picture identification is required.

Men's and women's Thanksgiving Classic Basketball Tournament

The men's and women's Thanksgiving Classic Basketball tournament is Nov. 29 - Dec. 1 at the Hopi Veteran's Memorial Center (Hwy. 264 Mile Post 375.5) in Kykotsmovi, Ariz.

Emergency registration now at south entrance at Tuba City

Tuba City Regional Health Care Corporation's Emergency Department registration and triage station has moved to the south entrance of the hosptal.

This check-in point is where patients first sign in and check in to be seen by emergency room staff.

The hospital is located at 167 N. Main St., Tuba City, Ariz. In an emergency, people should call the Navajo Nation Police at (928) 283-3111.

Local Community Food Bank BYOB (Bring Your Own Bag)

Natural Grocers will donate five cents per customer to Northern Arizona Food Bank for each person who shops with their own bag.

Going green will help the environment and those less fortunate in the community.

Fitness center open in Kayenta

The Kayenta Fitness Center is a 1,500 square-foot fitness center located on U.S. Route 163, next to the Navajo Tribal Utility Authority (NTUA) in Kayenta.

The fitness center includes a treadmill and elliptical trainer for aerobic workouts, as well as various weight machines and free weights for strength conditioning. A monthly membership is $15 and a one-time all-day pass is $1.

The center is open Monday through Saturday. Its hours of operation are Monday-Friday from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. It is closed on Sundays.
