Country and Western Dance Marathon June 29

A seven-hour Country and Western Dance Marathon will take place June 29 from 6 p.m.-1 a.m. at the Hopi Veteran's Memorial Center in Kykotsmovi, Ariz. The Pueblo Country Band of Laguna, N.M. will be on stage and many door prizes will be available, including a grand prize drawing for an Apple iPad Mini. Concessions will also be available. Advance tickets are on sale now for $12 and are available by calling (928) 737-0174. Admission is $15 at the door. This is an alcohol and drug free event. DHD productions sponsors the event.

2013 Summer Rage basketball tourney July 6-7

The 2013 Summer Rage basketball tournament is July 6-7 at the elementary gym in Sanders, Ariz. All proceeds from the event go to students participating in a Boston college campus tour.

The entry fee for teams 10 and younger (co-ed) is $100. The fee for teams 13 and younger, high school (co-ed), is $130. The fee for high school teams is $140.

Navajo Nation Special Diabetes Project central administration office relocation

The Navajo Nation Special Diabetes Project (NNSDP) central administration office has relocated to the log cabin behind the Inn of Navajoland in St. Michael, Ariz. because of the closure of Administration Building 2 in Window Rock, Ariz.

"We are not sure exactly how long we will be located here in this facility," said Betti Delrow, NNSDP acting program manager. "We will carry out our business and the services being provided to the Navajo Nation in preventing diabetes and providing education about diabetes will continue without interruption."

NNSDP is currently waiting for phone service and Internet to be installed at the new offices. Until then, phone messages may be left at the Window Rock Wellness Center at (928) 871-7870.

Cowboy Poets Gathering Aug. 8-10

The 26th Arizona Cowboy Poets Gathering takes place Aug. 8-10 featuring Baxter Black on Aug. 8, Dave Stamey on Aug. 9, and Belinda Gail on Aug. 10. Tickets are available at www.azcowboypoets.org.

Flagstaff Concerts in the Park

Long summer days mean concerts in the park in Flagstaff. The shows feature local artists, representing several music genres including rock, folk, bluegrass, reggae, Celtic and blues. Shows are every Wednesday in June and July from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The location of the show alternates between Wheeler Park and Bushmaster Park.

Local Community Food Bank BYOB (Bring Your Own Bag)

Natural Grocers will donate five cents per customer to Northern Arizona Food Bank for each person that shops with their own bag.

Birth certificates available

Birth certificates will be available through the Coconino County Public Health Services District. Its staff now travels to Tuba City, Page, and Leupp to offer the service outside of their regular Flagstaff office hours.

Staff visits Tuba City 10 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. (local time) the first and third Wednesday of the month at the Coconino County District 5 Supervisors Office, 49 Maple St., one street west of Tuba City Regional Health Care Center. A Navajo translator is available.

Staff visits Page every second Wednesday of the month 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. (MST) at the Coconino County Health Department, Northern Region Office, 467 Vista Ave.

Staff visits Leupp Chapter house the first Thursday of the month 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. (local time).

Shonto Preparatory School, Hopi Jr./Sr. High School and Greyhills Academy High School announce Summer Food Service

The Shonto Preparatory School will provide summer meal service to all children 18 and younger, without charge. The meals are all the same for children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability.

The school will provide meals at Shonto Preparatory School, East Highway 160 and 98 from June 3-27, Monday through Thursday. Breakfast service is 7-8 a.m. Lunch service is 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Hopi Jr./Sr. High School will provide meals June 3-27 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. in the cafeteria. Meals will be served Monday through Thursday.

Greyhills Academy High School will provide meals June 3-28 in the Greyhills Academy High School cafeteria. Breakfast: 7-8 a.m. Lunch: 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Grandparents Infant CPR and Safety Classes Sept. 24

Flagstaff Medical Center's Childbirth Education Department, in partnership with the Flagstaff Exchange Club, is offering an infant CPR and safety class for expectant and new grandparents.

The class is offered 6:30-9 p.m. Sept. 24 at the Northern Arizona Healthcare Education Center, located in the Fort Valley Shopping Center, 1000 N. Humphreys St., Flagstaff.

The class is $25 for two grandparents. Topics include car seats, home and crib safety, swaddling and use of infant slings, CPR and choking relief for infants and tips on how to play a supportive role for your adult children as they move into parenthood.

Fitness center open in Kayenta

The Kayenta Fitness Center is a 1,500 square-foot fitness center located on U.S. Route 163, next to the Navajo Tribal Utility Authority (NTUA) in Kayenta.

The recently opened fitness center includes a treadmill and elliptical trainer for aerobic workouts, as well as various weight machines and free weights for strength conditioning. A monthly membership is $15 and a one-time all-day pass is $1.

The center is open Monday through Saturday. Its hours of operation are Monday-Friday from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. It is closed on Sundays.

Navajo Nation Program for Self Reliance Administers LIHEAP program.

The Navajo Nationm Program for Self Reliance (NNPS) now administers the Navajo Nation LIHEAP program.

In order to use the money for Fiscal Year 2014, public hearings must take place to obtain public comments. A public hearing will allow for comment on proposed plans that will determine whether the LIHEAP program will make changes that could affect rates or services offered by the LIHEAP program.

Applicants for the Navajo Nation LIHEAP may apply at all NNPSR offices.

Rodeo Association banquet and dance July 13

The Diné Land Senior Rodeo Association (DSRA) awards banquet will take place July 13 from 4-9 p.m. with a dance from 9 p.m.-1 a.m. at the Gallup Lions Club Hall in Gallup, N.M. Admission for the banquet and dance is $20, for the dance only admission is $10 and re-entry is $5. The Thunders will be on the bandstand Saturday night from 9 a.m.-1 a.m.
