Basketball camp July 23-25 in Chinle

The Girls and Boys Basketball Clubs of Chinle High School will put on the Tahnee Robinson Rezball Camp July 23-25 at the Wildcat Den in Chinle. The event is open to girls and boys, grades 7-12. Robinson will work on basketball skills and talk about her path to becoming the first Native American to be drafted in the WNBA. The Phoenix Mercury picked Robinson as its 31st pick and then traded her to the Conneticut Sun. Even though Robinson did not make the Sun, she continued her career by signing a contract with Elitizur Holon in Israel for the 2012 season. In 2013, Robinson played for Neftochimic in Bulgaria, The team had a record of 22-2.

Besides playing professional basketball, Robinson is an ambassador for Nike n7, a national spokesperson for Let's Move It! in Indian Country and a national spokesperson for Big Brothers, Big Sisters program. The National Indigenous Women's Resource Center recently chose her as the Violence Against Women Act national spokeswoman.

Robinson is currently in China with the NetScouts Organization representing the U.S. in several tournaments in China. She will return at the end of June and will make an appearance at NABI in Phoenix.

2013 Summer Rage basketball tourney July 6-7

The 2013 Summer Rage basketball tournament is July 6-7 at the elementary gym in Sanders, Ariz. All proceeds from the event go to students participating in a Boston college campus tour.

The entry fee for teams 10 and younger (co-ed) is $100. The fee for teams 13 and younger, (co-ed), is $130. The fee for high school teams is $140.

Navajo Nation Special Diabetes Project central administration office relocation

The Navajo Nation Special Diabetes Project (NNSDP) central administration office has relocated to the log cabin behind the Inn of Navajoland in St. Michael, Ariz. because of the closure of Administration Building 2 in Window Rock, Ariz.

"We are not sure exactly how long we will be located here in this facility," said Betti Delrow, NNSDP acting program manager. "We will carry out our business and the services being provided to the Navajo Nation in preventing diabetes and providing education about diabetes will continue without interruption."

NNSDP is currently waiting for phone service and Internet to be installed at the new offices. Until then, phone messages may be left at the Window Rock Wellness Center at (928) 871-7870.

Cowboy Poets Gathering Aug. 8-10

The 26th Arizona Cowboy Poets Gathering takes place Aug. 8-10 featuring Baxter Black on Aug. 8, Dave Stamey on Aug. 9, and Belinda Gail on Aug. 10. Tickets are available at www.azcowboypoets.org.

Flagstaff Concerts in the Park

Long summer days mean concerts in the park in Flagstaff. The shows feature local artists, representing several music genres including rock, folk, bluegrass, reggae, Celtic and blues. Shows are every Wednesday in June and July from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The location of the show alternates between Wheeler Park and Bushmaster Park.

July 3: Dave Logan Band (Folk, Rock, Roots), Wheeler Park.

July 10: Porchlights (Folk, Bluegrass), Bushmaster Park, sponsored by Hermosa Vida.

July 17: Northern Arizona Celtic Heritage Society Day with the Knockabouts, Bagpipers and Celtic Choral Groups, Wheeler Park.

Birth certificates available

Birth certificates will be available through the Coconino County Public Health Services District. Its staff now travels to Tuba City, Page, and Leupp to offer the service outside of their regular Flagstaff office hours.

Staff visits Tuba City 10 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. (local time) the first and third Wednesday of the month at the Coconino County District 5 Supervisors Office, 49 Maple St., one street west of Tuba City Regional Health Care Center. A Navajo translator is available.

Staff visits Page every second Wednesday of the month 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. (MST) at the Coconino County Health Department, Northern Region Office, 467 Vista Ave.

Staff visits Leupp Chapter house the first Thursday of the month 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. (local time).

Grandparents Infant CPR and Safety Classes Sept. 24

Flagstaff Medical Center's Childbirth Education Department, in partnership with the Flagstaff Exchange Club, is offering an infant CPR and safety class for expectant and new grandparents.

The class is offered 6:30-9 p.m. Sept. 24 at the Northern Arizona Healthcare Education Center, located in the Fort Valley Shopping Center, 1000 N. Humphreys St., Flagstaff.

The class is $25 for two grandparents. Topics include car seats, home and crib safety, swaddling and use of infant slings, CPR and choking relief for infants and tips on how to play a supportive role for your adult children as they move into parenthood.

Fitness Center open in Kayenta

The Kayenta Fitness Center is a 1,500 square-foot fitness center located on U.S. Route 163, next to the Navajo Tribal Utility Authority (NTUA) in Kayenta.

The recently opened fitness center includes a treadmill and elliptical trainer for aerobic workouts, as well as various weight machines and free weights for strength conditioning. A monthly membership is $15 and a one-time all-day pass is $1.

The center is open Monday through Saturday. Its hours of operation are Monday-Friday from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. It is closed on Sundays.

The Kayenta Fitness Center is a component of the Kayenta Township's Capital Improvement Projects and the Kayenta Township, whose overall vision is to achieve community development and to implement economic growth.
