The number one ranked Window Rock Fighting Scouts (27-2) won the 2013 AIA Division III Section I Tournament Feb. 9, at the Chinle Wildcat Den.

Window Rock over-powered the state's number four ranked team, the Snowflake Lobos (18-4), in a 76-48 win.

"We decide how the game is to be played, we don't let another team decide how a game is played," said Brad Thorsted, head coach of the Window Rock Scouts. "Play team defense and offense, move the ball, make the easy passes."

The finale opened with the Scouts moving the ball and passing the ball well to take an early 5-1 lead. Dominique Dale hit his second driving bucket of the quarter. A put back by Alex Destea, off an offensive rebound led to still another score. A steal by Darren Ashley and Kyler Ashley, off an in-bound pass by the Lobos, increased the lead to seven points. Kyler ended the scoring, hitting a trey with no time left to make the score 19-15.

With an excited standing room only crowd, the Scouts' Kyler hit another three pointer midway through the second quarter. The crowd erupted again and again with each score. When the buzzer sounded, the Scouts led 41-30.

"We play until the final buzzer - get back on defense and rebound," Thorsted said in the locker room at the half.

After the third quarter, the scouts led 57-38.

The Scouts dominated the game with leads of 21, 24 and 26. They pushed the spread to 28 points twice. The Lobos could only score ten points in the final quarter. The game ended with the Scouts on top 76-46.

Window Rock will play the first round winner of the 2013 AIA Boys Basketball Division III Section I match-up between the Benson Bobcats and Show Low Cougars this Friday at 7:30 p.m. The teams will face off at Northern Arizona University, in the J. Lawrence Walkup Skydome, in Flagstaff, Ariz.

Kyler Ashley led the Window Rock Scouts offensive output with a game high 21 points. Dominique Dale contributed 16 points and Darren Ashley added 11 points. Chase Waldin and Dallin Merrell led the Lobos with 13 and 10 points respectively.
