Free breast and cervical cancer screenings Friday at Flag Aquaplex health fair
Information about North Country HealthCare's FIT at Fifty Colon cancer screening also available

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz - The fifth annual Small Business Health Fair will feature "Nolan the Colon," an inflatable, interactive mega-colon standing more than 20 feet long, 12 feet high and 10 feet wide. The event takes place from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the Flagstaff Aquaplex, 1702 N. Fourth St. The Health Fair is free to attendees and sponsored by North Country HealthCare, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona and Mountain Heart.

Colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S., but it is also one of the most easily detected, preventable and treatable forms of cancer. Large enough to walk through, Nolan the Colon shows how a normal healthy colon can change over time into precancerous polyps that may become colorectal cancer.

The FIT at Fifty HealthCheck Program will play host to Nolan the Colon thanks to the Central Arizona Chapter of the Colon Cancer Alliance. The FIT at Fifty HealthCheck Program will be on sight to promote their free colon cancer screening program for uninsured men and women. Program representatives will be available to answer any questions community members have about colorectal cancer.

The Well Woman HealthCheck Program also will offer free breast and cervical cancer screening to uninsured women. These services include free mammography, clinical breast exams and Pap testing. North Country HealthCare uses its mobile medical unit as well as the Assured Imaging mobile mammography unit for the screenings. Women with insurance are also able to schedule a mammogram at the event.

The FIT at Fifty and Well Woman HealthCheck Programs provide free cancer screening and link patients to free or low cost diagnostic services and treatment. Most uninsured men and women qualify. More information is available at (928) 213-6104.

The Arizona Department of Health Services, Avon Breast Health Outreach Program, Susan G. Komen for the Cure (Phoenix Affiliate) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) pay for the HealthCheck Programs.
