Fall sports in full swing at Indian Wells Elementary

HOLBROOK, Ariz. - Fall sports season is in full swing at Indian Wells Elementary School. This season, students will be watching volleyball, football and cross country.

The volleyball teams are split again this year into the A and the B teams, with Ms. Yazzie coaching the A team and Ms. Boyce coaching the B team. The volleyball girls got off to a rough start with losses to Rocky Ridge and Leupp, but the A team roared back Aug. 30. They beat Wide Ruins in three games. They have games scheduled this coming week and pretty much every week after. Come on out on Tuesdays to support your Lady Roadrunners.

Football is also split again this year into two teams. Mr. Allen is coaching the A team, while Mr. Hunt is in charge of the B team. It's been a slow start to the season for the football teams. Games were cancelled due to weather conditions and rescheduled for later in the season. Mr. Allen's A team did achieve an epic victory over Wide Ruins on Aug. 30 with a score of 44-0. The B team has played one game so far, a 30-0 loss to the A team.

Stars for the A team so far have been first year player Theron Olney as quarterback, second year player Eric Gene, who leads the team in interceptions with three, and second year player Allison Begay, who leads the team in touchdowns with four. Stars for the B team so far have been Daylon Nez, Joshua Duffy and Bryan Begay.

Cross country is running right along. They have participated in two meets so far, with the latest meet at Wide Ruins. Indian Wells took first place for the JV Boys, the JV girls and the PeeWee division.
