Kaibab Plateau Christmas tree tags available now

Christmas tree-cutting tags for the North Kaibab Ranger District of the Kaibab National Forest are on sale now.

Tags cost $15 with a limit of one tree per household. They can be purchased at the Fredonia district office, at the Kaibab Plateau Visitor Center at Jacob Lake, or by mail.

The Fredonia district office is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 8 a.m. to noon on Nov. 24.

The Kaibab Plateau Visitor Center is open from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays and Sundays only, during the weekends of Nov. 17 and Nov. 24, weather permitting. The visitor center is located next to Jacob Lake Inn at Jacob Lake, Ariz.

Customers can also purchase Christmas tree tags through the mail. Mail requests should include the customer's name, $15, and a self-addressed stamped envelope.

Mail requests can be sent to Christmas Tree Coordinator, North Kaibab Ranger District, P.O. Box 248 / 430 S. Main St, Fredonia, Ariz. 86022. Expect seven to 10 days to receive a permit by mail.

Customers will receive a map that shows what areas are authorized for cutting. Tree species available include blue and Englemann spruce, Douglas, subalpine and white fir, pinyon and ponderosa pine, and Utah and Rocky Mountain juniper.

Visitors can access cutting areas via forest roads. The Forest Service urges visitors to monitor weather conditions as most roads on the district are not paved.
