KYKOTSMOVI, Ariz. - A few weeks ago, the Hopi Tribal Council approved the appointment of Marilyn Fredericks as the Associate Judge for the Trial Court. On April 9, the council conducted a swearing in ceremony to officially seat Fredericks as Associate Judge.

Judge Fredericks, from the Village of Bacavi, holds a juris doctorate and has served in various capacities in her professional career, most recently as staff assistant for the Office of the Vice Chairman Herman Honanie.

"Ms. Fredericks and I go a long way back", said Vice Chairman Honanie. "We grew up together and I am proud to see her serve as judge. She has been a role model to our community and has contributed greatly to my office. She will be missed, but I have full confidence that she will do well and will bring much to the Trial Court."

Chairman LeRoy Shingoitewa applauded Fredericks' appointment as Associate Judge and thanked her for many contributions to the Hopi Tribe and gave her words of encouragement in her new position.

Judge Fredericks will hear various cases in the Hopi Trial Court, but will mainly focus on the New Youth Wellness Court.
