Indian Wells working with eScrip to help students stay healthy

HOLBROOK, Ariz. - "Indian Wells Elementary (IWES) recently purchased $1,200 worth of playground balls for grades third through sixth. Each of the12 classes will receive two basketballs, one volleyball, one kickball, one football, a large jump rope and a mesh bag to contain the equipment, thanks to the eScrip program at Safeway," said kindergarten teacher Mrs. Wehrman, coordinator of the program for IWES.

eScrip has proven to be a fantastic resource for fundraising where participating business partners like Safeway contribute a percentage of grocery loyalty card purchases to the school, group or organization chosen by a consumer who registers for the program. When people shop at Safeway and use their Safeway card number (not phone number) then a certain percentage of their purchase is credited to the school of their choice. Schools can use the allocated funds for a broad range of physical and nutrition programs, such as fitness activities, sports equipment, and nutrition or health speakers.

"At Indian Wells Elementary School, we realize that physical fitness is an important component of a child's academic and personal success. We are grateful to those who participate in the eScrip program for making it possible for us to provide additional sports equipment for our students to bring into their play," said Wehrman.
