Blasting on SR 260 east of Payson under way
PAYSON, Ariz. - The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) will close a two-mile segment of State Route 260 20 miles east of Payson at 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday, which is effective through Jan. 26. The roadway will be closed for up to 45 minutes each day as blasting operations continue on the project to widen the highway west of the Christopher Creek campground. Eastbound traffic will be stopped at approximately milepost 269 and westbound traffic will be stopped at approximately milepost 271.
Drivers should allow additional time to reach their destinations. Once the highway is reopened, motorists will continue traveling in an active construction zone. Speed limits are reduced to 45 mph and a width restriction of 10 feet remains in place. Message boards, temporary barricades, and signage will guide motorists through the project area. ADOT appreciates the traveling public's patience during construction. The project is scheduled for completion in fall 2012.
ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
