Winslow Bulldogs beat Northland Prep and River Valley; lose to Santa Rita and Snowflake in Pepsi Invitational Tournament
After tourney, team 8-3 this season, host Page Sand Devils Tuesday

The Winslow Bulldogs won two games and lost two in the Pepsi Invitational Tournament in Flagstaff Dec. 6-9. The Bulldogs are now 8-3 for the season.

On Dec.6 the Bulldogs fell to the Tucson Santa Rita Eagles 50-46. The next day they defeated the Northland Prep Spartans 50-41. On Saturday, they defeated the River Valley Dust Devils 53-46 but later lost the Consolation Bracket Championship Game to the Snowflake Lobos 70-52.

Santa Rita 56-Winslow 46

In the Bulldog's first game on Thursday, Winslow fell to the Tucson Santa Rita Eagles 56-46. Santa Rita led 13-9 after the first quarter and 26-21 at the half. The margin was still five points, 36-31, after three quarters of play. Only six players scored for Santa Rita but four were in double figures.

Tracy Kit led the Eagles with 12 points followed by Jeremiah Cardenas and T.J. Stoglin with 11 points each and Corey Smith with 10. Stevin Nelson led the Bulldogs with nine points and Timmy Little added eight.

Winslow 50-Northland Prep 41

The Bulldogs defeated the Northland Prep Spartans 50-41 on Friday. The game was tied at 12-12 after the first quarter and Northland Prep led by a single point at the half. The game was tied again at 34-34 after three quarters of play. Winslow outscored the Spartans 16-7 in the final period to secure the victory.

Braxton Hibbert of Northland Prep led all scorers with 18 points. Winslow had 10 players score compared to only six for the Spartans. Michael Goldtooth led the Bulldogs with 11 points.

Stevin Nelson also scored in double figures for Winslow with 10 points. Jesi Bitsoi scored eight important points for Winslow, all in the crucial fourth quarter.

Winslow 53-River Valley 46

The Bulldogs defeated the River Valley Dust Devils 53-46 in the team's first game Saturday. River Valley led 10-6 after the first quarter but Winslow rallied and led 23-18 at the half.

The Bulldogs continued to control the game and led 38-28 after three quarters of play.

Michael Goldtooth led all scorers with 19 points for the winning Bulldogs. Lukas Shirley scored in double figures for Winslow with 15 points. Ryan Wright led River Valley with 15 points.

Snowflake 70-Winslow 52

In the Consolation Bracket Championship Game, the Snowflake Lobos defeated the Bulldogs 70-52. The Lobos led 14-8 after the first quarter and put together a commanding 49-16 lead by the half. The Bulldogs cut into the lead but still trailed by a substantial 48-32 margin after three quarters of play.

Snowflake's Reggie Peterson led all scorers with 20 points. Chase Walden was also in double figures for the Lobos with 16 points and Rick Shumway had nine points for the victors.

Michael Goldtooth led Winslow with 18 points. Lukas Shirley scored in double figures for the Bulldogs with 10 points and Keenan Keams tallied eight points for Winslow. Both benches got into the scoring column as 10 Lobos and nine Bulldogs scored.

Winslow hosted the Blue Ridge Yellowjackets yesterday and will host the Page Sand Devils next Tuesday.
