PT's 2012 Rock'N 66 Rally Aug. 24-26

PT's of Winslow is once again gearing up for the 2012 Rock'N 66 Rally Aug. 24-26. The event will be based at PT's, 1500 E. Third St., Winslow.

Enjoy live music, great food, bike games, tattoo contest, bikini bike wash, vendors, bike show, bike parade, Northern AZ Poker Run, Texas Hold-'Em Tourney and much more. All bikes are welcome. Featured bands throughout the weekend include Rewired Classic Rock, Outlaws of Cleopatra Hill, A Boy Named Sioux and more.

Run Saturday for Big Brothers, Sisters

Lace up those shoes and join Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flagstaff for the "Dave McKay Memorial" 35th annual half marathon and 5K fun run on Saturday, Aug. 11 at Wheeler Park in downtown Flagstaff. The half marathon run starts at 7:30 a.m., the walk starts at 6 a.m. The 5K fun run starts at 7:45 a.m. and a "kids dash" starts directly after the 5K.

Prizes in the half marathon are awarded to the Overall Open and Master's Winners, as well as the top three in each age division. In the 5K fun run prizes are awarded to the top three overall men and women. Runners receive a race t-shirt and a raffle ticket.

Charly's Pub and Grill will host the Dave McKay Memorial Award Ceremony. Runners can enjoy live music, drinks, and appetizer specials until 4 p.m. Party begins at noon directly after the race and awards will be given out at 1 p.m.

A Wild Horse and Burro Adoption will be offered Aug. 17-19 at Olsen's Grain, 11705 N. Highway 89, Flagstaff. A preview will be held 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Aug. 17. Adoptions will be offered 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Aug. 18 and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Aug. 19.

The 2012 Hashk'aahadzohi Family Reunion will be held on Aug. 31 at Nancy Horse's residence hogan by the river in Cameron, Ariz. This is three miles east of Cameron Bridge on Navajo Route 6730.

Birth certificates available

Birth certificates will be available through the Coconino County Public Health Services District. Their staff now travels to: Tuba City, Page, and Leupp to offer the service outside of their regular Flagstaff Office hours.

Staff visits Tuba City 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. (local time) the first and third Wednesday of the month at the Coconino Country District 5 Supervisors Office, 49 Maple St., one street west of Tuba City Regional Health Care Center. A Navajo translator is available. Staff will be in Tuba City today.

Staff visits Page every second Wednesday of the month 10 a.m.-2 p.m. MST at the Coconino County Health Department, Northern Region Office, 467 Vista Ave. Staff will be in Page TODAY.

Staff visits Leupp Chapter house the first Thursday of the month 10 a.m.-2 p.m. (local time).

Veterans Town Hall

Attention all veterans on Hopi and Navajo Country. A Veterans Town Hall Meeting will be on Monday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. (MST), at the Hotevilla Elderly Center, Ariz.

Come learn about the VA programs available to veterans. Tanya Dooline, Veterans Benefits Counselor, Arizona Department of Veterans' Services, Chinle, Ariz., is a guest speaker. After her presentation, Dooline will assist veterans with VA claims. Please bring copies of military discharge documents, financial award letters, ID cards and marriage documents.

Jeffery Wilson, Loan Production Officer, VA Regional Loan Center, Phoenix, Ariz., will conduct presentation on the VA Native American Home Loan Program. Later Wilson will conduct comprehensive training for Veteran Service Officers, Tribal and Village Housing Authority Officers and others who will be assisting Veterans in applying for the Native American Home Loan program.

Northern Arizona Academy (NAA) is currently enrolling students in grades 9-12 for the upcoming school year. Hopi 5K, 10K Saturday

The Hopi 10K, 5K, and 2 Mile Run and Walk will be Saturday in Old Oraibi, Ariz. This was formerly known as The Oraivi Footrace, but remains the same great race. All events are for runners and walkers of very ability.

The 5K and 2 mile will begin together at 6 a.m. with the 10K following at 6:35 a.m. Awards to the top three overall female and male runners in the 10K and 5K and age categories. A veteran award will be given to the first female and male veteran to cross the finish line. A free One-Half Mile kids dash limited to 40 will be offered on the day of the race. All official registered runners will receive a race goody bag and Dri-Fit Shirt.

Celebrate breastfeeding

August is National Breastfeeding Month and this year the theme is: "Understanding the Past - Planning our Future." The Navajo Nation Breastfeeding Coalition is hosting a Breastfeeding Celebration. The celebration will include a 5k run, the annual fun walk, health fair, baby expo, Child Find screenings, nutrition/cooking demonstrations, music, games, and many more activities to promote and support breastfeeding in our community.

The event is scheduled for Friday and will run from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Visit Leppin Ranch

The Leppin Ranch in Winslow extends an invitation to all Navajo and Hopi people to come and enjoy upcoming events.

Everyone is invited to Leppin Ranch 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Aug. 25 at the opening of the new seasonal country market. Cake and beverages will be served to celebrate the ranch and its new building.

Leppin Ranches Farmers Market will be open 12-2 p.m. Aug. 25. Come one and all with your food, produce, arts and crafts. There is a $7 booth fee.

The Farmers Market continues 12-2 p.m. Sept. 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29. Park your booth under a tree and sell to the many customers that come to enjoy the ranch. Fees are still $7 prior to Aug. 20. After that date, the fee is $15.

The Annual Fall Harvest Festival will be held 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 6-7 at Leppin Ranch, 102 Papago Blvd., Winslow. Enjoy live pumpkin, melon and vegetable picking in addition to hayrides and food and beverages. Pet and paint Princess the Pony while enjoying entertainment and other exciting events. There is fun for everyone - young and old - so come and enjoy the new store, order ice cream, sandwiches and spend the day.

Free classes offered

Northern Arizona College Resource Center offers helpful classes The Northern Arizona College Resource Center (NACRC) is offering classes throughout the summer. The classes will be held at NACRC, 1000 N. Turquoise Dr.

An SAT/ACT workshop will be held 10 a.m.-1 p.m. tomorrow. Learn the basics of financial aid 3:30-4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Learn what to look for in a school 6-7 p.m. Aug. 22. Learn what to think about when choosing a school and how to search for schools that offer everything you want.

Scholarships is the topic of a workshop that will be held 3:30-4:30 p.m. Aug. 28.

Free pregnancy test

Planned Parenthood Arizona's Flagstaff Health Center will be offering half-priced exams and free pregnancy testing through Aug. 31.

The exams for both men and women are an important part of residents staying healthy, and there is no better time to focus on health than in the summer. Along with reproductive exams Planned Parenthood provides a full spectrum of reproductive health care - STD testing and treatment, birth control, condoms, information and counseling.

This summer, Flagstaff Health Center is also providing free pregnancy testing to women in the community.

Planned Parenthood Arizona wants to help keep the men and women of the Flagstaff community healthy and happy by providing them with expert testing and exams that they could not otherwise may not be able to afford.
