WINSLOW, Ariz. - The Winslow Bulldogs got back on the winning path with a 7-1 victory over the Snowflake Lobos in Winslow on April 12. The victory improved Winslow's record to an impressive 15-5 for the season.
Chris Garrett went the distance for the win and allowed only one run while scattering 11 hits and walking one while fanning four in seven innings of work.
Coach Art Griffith had praise for the Bulldog defense, which committed only one error, which did not figure in the scoring. Snowflake had quite a few scoring opportunities but was unable to get the crucial hit that would have tightened the gap Winslow had established in the opening inning.
The Bulldogs scored five times in the bottom of the first inning A Snowflake error, a walk and singles by Matt Smith and Colton Corum preceded a three run homer by Jon Bollin leading to a 5-0 lead. The margin was increased to 7-0 in the bottom of the third on doubles by Smith and Corum, an error and a walk. Snowflake bunched three hits in the fourth inning for their only run. The Lobos stranded nine runners.
Matt Smith and Colton Corum were each two for three for the Bulldogs with each having a double. Jon Bollin and Adrian Montoya were one for two with Bollin having a home run. Vittorio Sells was one for three.
The Bulldogs are slated to play the Joseph City Wildcats tomorrow and will meet the Flagstaff Eagles at Flagstaff on Friday.
