Coconino Panthers 8, Winslow Bulldogs 7
Winning streak snapped Tuesday
WINSLOW, Ariz. - The Winslow Bulldogs saw their winning streak snapped by the Coconino Panthers 8-7 in Winslow on April 10. The loss dropped Winslow's record to 14-5 for the season. The Bulldogs were to play Snowflake at Winslow on April 12 and a double-header at Joseph City on April 14. They will meet the Flagstaff Eagles in Flagstaff on April 20.
Matt Smith took the loss in relief of Caleb Layden in a very close contest. Coach Art Griffith said that both teams hit the ball well but that a couple of mental errors were costly for the Bulldogs.
Coconino scored in the top of the first but Winslow tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second inning. Both teams scored twice in the third inning. Coconino scored four times in the top of the fourth and Winslow cut the margin to 7-5 in the bottom of the frame. The Bulldogs tied the score in the bottom of the sixth. The Panthers scored what proved to be the winning run in the top of the seventh on two hits and a costly error.
Vittorio Sells led the Bulldogs at the plate with a three for four day including a double and a home run. Chris Garrett was two for four with a home run. Matt Cirre was two for four with a double. Caleb Layden and Matt Smith were both one for three with each having a double. Colton Corum and Aaron Martin were both one for four with Martin having a double.
