Winslow volleyball team wins three matches in late September
WINSLOW, Ariz. - The Winslow High School volleyball team had an interesting end of September with both matches and play in the Snowflake Invitational Tournament. The results were mixed as the team did well in dual matches but not very well in the tournament.
The Lady Bulldogs played four matches and in the Snowflake Invitational Tournament from Sept. 21 until the end of the month. The team won three of the four matches played but won only one of three pool play matches and neither of the tournament matches at the tournament at Snowflake.
On Sept. 21 the Lady Bulldogs journeyed to Chinle and defeated the Lady Wildcats three games to one by scores of 25-11 and 25-14 before losing 25-19 then winning 25-21.
The Snowflake Tournament was on Sept. 23-24 where Winslow lost to Payson 25-17 and 25-13 and to Blue Ridge 25-17and 25-15 and defeated San Carlos 25-17 and 25-9 in pool play. In tournament play the Lady Bulldogs lost to Window Rock 25-11 and 25-18 and to Blue Ridge 25-20 and 25-13.
The Lady Bulldogs journeyed to Show Low on Sept. 27 and defeated the Lady Cougars three games to two. Winslow lost the first game 25-17 but won the second 25-18. Show Low won the third game 25-15 but Winslow won the fourth 25-17 and the tie-breaker 15-7 to take the match.
The Valley Sanders Lady Pirates came to Winslow on Sept. 28 and were beaten three games to one by the Lady Bulldogs. Winslow won the first two games 25-16 and 25-22 before dropping the third 25-23. The Lady Bulldogs wrapped up the match by winning the fourth game 25-22.
In the final match of September the Lady Bulldogs lost their match to the Snowflake Lady Lobos in Snowflake four games to one. Snowflake won the first game 25-19. Winslow won the second game 25-17 but the Lady Lobos won the final two games and the match by scores of 25-6 and 25-8.
The Winslow High School volleyball team consists of seniors Tatum Charley, Tara Wilson, Taramika Lee, Robina Villanueva, Kiersten Nezzie and Corey Nez; juniors Danielle Begaye and Jamie Bollin; sophomores Halle Hayes, Renee Bollin, Jaleisa Hayes, Marcella Joe and Tannon Tom and freshman Shandiin Armao.
