Cross country teams finish fifth, seventh

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -The Winslow High School cross country teams attended the Jack Boehle Invitational Meet hosted by Coconino High School at Flagstaff on Oct. 8. The Winslow varsity boys finished fifth among the 10 teams in their race. The Winslow girls finished seventh, only one point behind Coconino.

Scores for all teams were not available but the winning varsity teams were Tuba City in the boys' meet and in the girls' meet as well.

Cody Sangster brought home another medal this weekend after running 17:28 for a 12th place finish on the course at Coconino High School on Saturday. Kevin Decker took 27th in 18:25, followed by Milland Thomas in 37th, Peyton Pete in 44th, and Lorin Greenwood in 48th.

The Winslow junior varsity boys' team took third place overall with five runners in the top 30. DeSean Spencer, coming off of a knee injury, ran 19:31 for ninth place, earning a medal in the JV race. Andre Guye ran 20:30 for 20th place. Trevor Begay ran 20:35 for 22nd place. Jalen Brady ran 21:08 for 28th place, and Tylon Yazzie ran 21:17 for 29th place.

In the junior varsity girls' race Kiyanna Honani and Avrial Sheffer, both freshmen, were 13th and 14th place respectively. Kiyanna ran 25:01 and Avrial ran 25:13; they both brought home medals

Next the Bulldogs will compete at the annual Holbrook Invitational on Oct. 21.
