Winslow wins two on the road versus Chinle, Snowflake

CHINLE and SNOWFLAKE, Ariz. - The Winslow Bulldogs pounded the hapless Chinle Wildcats 28-2 on Tuesday in Chinle and defeated the Snowflake Lobos 9-5 on Thursday in Snowflake. The wins left the Bulldogs with a 5-3 record for the young season.

On Tuesday against Chinle, the Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first and improved the margin to 8-1 in the second and 15-1 in the third on their way to the rout. Colton Corum got the win and Vicenzio Sells worked in relief both allowed a run but held the Wildcats to just three hits for the game.

The Bulldogs enjoyed a stellar afternoon at the plate. Matthew Smith led the Bulldogs' heavy hitting attack with a four for four day with two doubles. Corum and James Martinez were two for two with Martinez having a pair of doubles. Avery Dashee and Chad LaPointe were one for one. Chris Garrett was three for four with a pair of doubles and a home run.  Vicenzio Sells was two for three. Vittorio Sells was three for five with a double. Jevon Estelle was three for five with two home runs. Rhett Hardy was one for three with a home run. Johnnie Woods was one for five.

Against Snowflake on Friday, Woods started but Smith got the win in relief.  Woods went two and a third innings and gave up three runs, two of which were earned on four hits and two walks. Smith worked four and a third innings and gave up two runs, one of which was earned, on three hits and no walks with seven strikeouts.

Both teams scored three runs in the first inning. Winslow had a single by Vittorio Sells, a double by Smith and a home run by Estelle for their scoring. The Bulldogs took a 4-3 lead in the third inning on a single by Sells and a Snowflake error. The margin grew to 5-3 in the fifth inning on a walk, a stolen base and an error. Four walks and a single by Vicenzio Sells accounted for four runs and a 9-3 Winslow lead in the top of the fifth inning. Snowflake got its final two runs in the bottom of the seventh on two singles, a hit batsman and an error.

Against Snowflake, Hardy was one for one. Woods was one for two. Vittorio Sells was two for four with a double. Estelle was one for three with a home run. Smith was one for four with a double and Vicenzio Sells was one for four as well.

The Bulldogs were to entertain Tuba City on Friday and will not be in action again until Thursday when they meet Blue Ridge at Lakeside.
