Baseball, softball seasons begin for Winslow teams

WINSLOW, Ariz. - The Winslow Bulldogs baseball team began play last Friday in the Estrella Foothills Invitational Tournament to start their 2011 season. The tournament was to continue on Saturday. Winslow was to stay on the road for a game at Tuba City Greyhills on Monday at 2 p.m. and at Payson on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. The first home appearance will be on Saturday, March 12 at 2 p.m. against Valley Sanders. They will then travel to Chinle to play the Wildcats at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15.

The Bulldogs meet the Snowflake Lobos at Snowflake on Thursday, March 17 and host Tuba City on Friday, March 18 at 4 p.m. They will host Blue Ridge on Thursday, March 24 at 6 p.m. and journey to Show Low on Tuesday, March 29 to meet the Cougars at 3:30 p.m.

The Bulldogs will compete in the Wolves Classic Tournament at Goodyear on Friday and Saturday, April 1 and 2.

Next will come two straight home games against Holbrook on Tuesday, April 5 at 6:30 p.m., and Show Low on Friday, April 8 at 4:30 p.m. A trip to Kayenta to meet Monument Valley will occur on Saturday, April 9 at noon. Winslow will then host Tuba City on Tuesday, April 12 and Ganado on Thursday, April 14 with both games set for 3:30 p.m.

A game on the road will follow with Winslow at Polacca to meet the Hopi Bruins on Friday, April 15 at 3 p.m. Winslow will be at Blue Ridge on Saturday, April 16 at 6 p.m. They will be at Holbrook on Tuesday, April 19 at 4 p.m. and at Window Rock on Thursday, April 21 for a double header slated to start at noon and 2 p.m.

Lady Bulldog softball

The defending Arizona State 3A Conference Champion Winslow Lady Bulldogs softball team will begin play on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Tuba City against the Lady Warriors to start their 2011 season. Winslow will stay on the road for a game at Tuba City Greyhills on Monday and at Payson on Thursday. The first home appearance will be on Saturday, March 12 at 2 p.m. against Valley Sanders. They will then travel to Chinle to play the Lady Wildcats at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15.

The Lady Bulldogs will compete in the Payson Invitational Tournament on Friday and Saturday, March 18 and 19. They will host Blue Ridge on Monday, March 28 at 3:30 p.m., journey to Show Low on Tuesday, March 20 to meet the Lady Cougars at 3:30 p.m.

Next will come three straight home games against Holbrook on Tuesday, April 5 at 6:30 p.m., Joseph City on Thursday, April 7 at 4 p.m. and Show Low on Friday, April 8 at 6:30 p.m. A trip to Kayenta to meet Monument Valley will occur on Saturday, April 9 at noon. Winslow will then host Tuba City on Tuesday, April 12 and Ganado on Thursday, April 14 with both games set for 3:30 p.m.

Winslow will play in the Las Vegas Invitational Tournament on April 21-23. That will be followed by the regional tournament on Tuesday, April 26 at the home of the higher seed and at Winslow on Friday and Saturday, April 29-30. The state tournament will be played on the next two weekends. The boys' tournaments will be played on those same dates.
