Winslow teams defeat Ganado, Tuba City in regional play

WINSLOW and TUBA CITY, Ariz. - The Winslow Bulldogs defeated the Ganado Hornets 68-51 in a 3A North Region basketball game played at Winslow on Friday and bested the Tuba City Warriors 58-46 in Tuba City on Saturday. The win improved Winslow's record to 17-4 and their regional record to 3-0.

The Winslow Lady Bulldogs defeated the Ganado Lady Hornets 64-26 on Friday and the Tuba City Lady Warriors 68-53 on Saturday.

Information on the girls' games on both days was not available at press time and information of the boys' game on Saturday was not yet available.

The Friday game won by the Bulldogs 68-51 was tied at 12-12 after the first period of play but the Bulldogs used a productive second period to build a 34-21 halftime lead. The margin was a commanding 51-27 at the end of three quarters.

Kraig Shirley led the Bulldogs with 18 points. Tyler Williams was also in double figures for Winslow with 12 points. Tremayne Nez scored nine points and Brennan James added eight for the victors. Marcus Begay of Ganado was the game's high scorer with 27 points but was the only Hornet in double figures.

The Bulldogs defeated the Tuba City Warriors on Saturday in a regional game at Tuba City 58-46 and were to host Window Rock in a regional game on Monday and be at Show Low for a non-regional contest on Tuesday.

The Winslow girls defeated Ganado 64-26 and Tuba City 68-53 in their regional games for which details was not available at press time.
