NOVA announces Navajo scholarships

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. - NOVA Corporation, a leading Navajo-owned information technology company with offices in Window Rock, Albuquerque, N.M., Chambersburg, Pa. announces that is has begun receiving applications for its NOVA Scholarship endowment for Navajo college students. With a minimum of $500 awarded to recipients per semester, the scholarship will be applied to the fall semester of 2011.

"NOVA is proud to offer scholarships to Navajo students trying to acquire a college education. In fact, we are thrilled to announce that we have added $75,000 to the scholarship fund which will allow us to help more students as the cost of higher education continues to rise making it harder for them to pursue a degree in the fields of computer science, information technology, and engineering," said John Snider, president and chief executive officer of NOVA.

Applicants for the NOVA Scholarship must be an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation and be able to provide a Certificate of Indian Blood; have a minimum grade point average of 2.0; and be pursuing a college degree in engineering, information technology, business, communications, or computer science. The scholarship is also available to high school students and adults wanting to pursue a higher education.

Students must complete the application and an essay between 500 and 800 words to be considered for the scholarship. In addition, students who come from low-income families will be given special consideration.
