Six 3A North Region teams qualify to play in state tournament

CHINLE, Ariz. - The Window Rock Lady Scouts defeated the Monument Valley Lady Mustangs 43-37 to win the 3A North Region Tournament in Chinle on Saturday. Tuba City finished third in the tournament with a 59-35 win over Winslow. Those four teams and the Chinle Wildcats and the Holbrook Lady Roadrunners all qualified and were seeded for the Arizona State 3A Conference Tournament which began on Tuesday.

The Lady Scouts are the top seed in the tournament and will host River Valley on Friday. Should they win, they will play the winner of a Coolidge at Snowflake game at Tim's Toyota Center at Prescott on Monday. The semi-finals and finals will be at Jobing.com Arena in Glendale on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 25 and 26.

On that same side of the bracket are Alchesay at Safford and Fountain Hills at Estrella Foothills who meet on Friday with the winners advancing to the quarter final games.

Monument Valley finished third in the regional tournament with a 56-51 win over Holbrook and a win over Tuba City before losing to Window Rock in the Championship Game 43-37. The Lady Mustangs are seeded third in the state and will host the Round valley Elks on Friday.

The Winslow Lady Bulldogs finished fourth in the regional tournament having beaten Chinle 66-54 and losing 74-45 to Window Rock and 50-35 to Tuba City. The Lady Bulldogs will host the Holbrook Lady Roadrunners on Friday. Holbrook is seeded 11th and lost to Monument Valley 56-41in the regional tournament. Winslow and Holbrook split their two regional regular season games.

The Chinle Lady Wildcats are seeded 10th and will open play at the Florence Lady Gophers on Friday. Chinle lost to Winslow 66-54 in the regional tournament. If they can beat Florence, the Lady Wildcats would play the winner of a game between fellow 3A North Region rival Tuba City Warriors and the Sedona Red Rock Scorpions at Tuba City. The Lady Warriors are seeded second in the state tournament.
