FT. DEFIANCE, Ariz. - The Window Rock High School boys and girls basketball teams defeated the Winslow High School teams in 3A North Region basketball games played at Fort Defiance on Thursday. The Lady Scouts dominated their game and the boys' team won by the narrowest of margins with a score of 52-51.
The Window Rock Lady Scouts defeated the Winslow Lady Bulldogs 64-38 in an important 3A North Region basketball game. The win improved Window Rock's record to a near perfect 25-1 for the season and to 11-0 in the region. Winslow fell to 14-11 for the season and 4-6 in the region.
Window Rock built a huge first half lead and coasted to the victory. The Lady Scouts were up by 10 after the first quarter 19-9 and held the Lady Bulldogs scoreless for most of the second period to come away with a 25 point advantage 38-13 at the intermission. The margin was 53-28 after three quarters of play.
Ashley Mitchell led all scorers with 25 points for Window Rock. Coralie Clark with 12 points and Arianne Sheka with 10 points were also in double figures for the Lady Scouts. Felencia Keams led Winslow with 12 points.
The Lady Bulldogs were to host the Holbrook Lady Roadrunners on Friday in the final game of the regular season.
Window Rock will end their regular season at Kayenta on Friday against the Monument Valley Lady Mustangs, a team whose only loss so far was to the Lady Scouts 50-34 at Window Rock.
In the boys' game the Scouts came from behind to take a 52-51 victory over the Bulldogs in a game that was not decided until the final buzzer. The win improved Window Rock's record to
17-7 and their regional record to 10-2. Winslow fell to 23-7 and 7-2.

Winslow started strong and had a narrow 18-15 lead after the first quarter of play. The Bulldogs were still up at the half 34-27 and had a double digit 45-35 lead going into the final period. Window Rock outscored the Bulldogs 17-6 in the fourth quarter to take the win. The game was not decided until the final buzzer as Winslow failed to score on its final possession.
Kraig Shirley led all scorers with 19 points for Winslow. Jevon Estelle was also in double figures for the Bulldogs with 14 points. Kyler Ashley led the Scouts with 14 points and Jaydiamond Taliman was also in double figures with 11 points.
Winslow was to host Holbrook on Friday in their final game of the regular season while Window Rock plays Monument Valley at Kayenta. Both games could play a role in seeding for the 3A North Region Tournament which began on Tuesday at Chinle.
