A big thank you to Hopi Tribal Chairman Mr. Leroy Shingoitewa

To the editor:

In the past years up to this date there has been a lot of negative press on our tribal government and the council representatives, in particular against the chairman. For once let's put all negative attitudes and animosities behind ourselves and give positive press.

Our family wants to give our Hopi Tribal Chairman Mr. Shingoitewa a special thank you for his quick action to declare a state of emergency when the water pump problem devastated First Mesa and the Polacca area. People went without water and he quickly took action and connected an emergency support team, NTUA, IHS, and other agencies to solve the problem in a matter of a few days. We have water now.

We have a water program and the committee, but I guess we do not have water experts. We have to reach outside our community. This would have been another several weeks or months. Because of the quick action of our chairman the problem is solved.

We want to give him and our tribal government a big, long overdue thank you for helping the communities, instead of always tearing our government down. It seems everyone is always fishing after them to give negative comments, but when there is a job well done everyone is slow to respond or they don't acknowledge it.

I hope those of you who have softer and kind hearts will agree. Thank you.
