Cellular One expands coverage to Whitehorse Lake, Blue Gap

WHITEHORSE LAKE, BLUE GAP, Ariz. - Most of us take for granted the ability to simply lift the phone and call a friend or family member, but in the Chapters of Whitehorse Lake and Blue Gap until recently, this just wasn't possible. Thanks to the efforts of the local Chapter Houses and Cellular One this is no longer the case. Working closely with the local community Cellular One has built towers in both chapters to provide desperately needed cellphone services to the respective areas. The newly established service will cover areas in the Eastern Agency and areas from Chinle to Pinon.

"We are very thankful to Cellular One for providing service in Whitehorse Lake. Our community lives in a remote area with limited resources. Less than five homes within the surrounding area of the Chapter House have land lines and those with cellular phones have had to drive at least 15 miles to use that service. With this new tower, Cellular One has brought instant communications services to our people. We are very thankful to Cellular One for bringing the technology coming to our reservation to better serve our people," said Andrew R. Jim, Chapter President of Whitehorse Lakes.

Blue Gap Chapter President Aaron Yazzie expressed his appreciation to Cellular One.

"On behalf of the people of the Blue Gap/Tachee and surrounding areas, I would like to thank everyone at Cellular One who worked hard to establish a cellular tower for our community. Today we can make phone calls from anywhere in the valley, a blessing for our entire community," said Yazzie.

As part of a special dedication and blessing, the tower in Whitehorse Lake was blessed during a sunrise ceremony on Aug. 2. Blue Gap was blessed on Aug. 3. Following the ceremony, Cellular One hosted a celebration luncheon at each of the Chapter Houses on the same day of the blessing. Cellular One will also present each Chapter House with a plaque in honor of its new service and the blessing ceremony.

"It is with great delight, that Cellular One continues to help chapters like Whitehorse Lake and Blue Gap obtain security and safety through cellular service as well as the ability to communicate with their loved ones. We are very happy to have worked closely with the local chapters to provide them with the services that they requested. These new towers will ensure improved communication within these communities," said Judd Hinkle, Cellular One Chief Operating Officer.
