WINSLOW, Ariz. - The Winslow Bulldogs defeated the Holbrook Roadrunners 11-7 in a baseball game played on Wednesday. The win improved Winslow's record for the season to 11-6.
Holbrook took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning on three singles, a triple and a walk. Winslow came back with a seven run bottom of the second on four hits, two walks and an error. Rhett Hardy, Chris Garrett and Johnny Woods singled and Matt Smith doubled in the rally. The Bulldogs increased their lead to 10-4 in the bottom of the fourth on two single and two walks. Vicenzio Sells and Chris Garrett had the hits. The final Winslow run came in the bottom of the sixth inning on a triple by Rhett Hardy and a single by Chris Garrett. Holbrook scored three runs in the top of the seventh on three doubles and a single.
Chris Garrett had a four for four day at the plate with a double. Rhett Hardy was a perfect two for two with a double and a triple. Matt Smith was two for four with a double. Vittorio Sells, Vicenzio Sells and Johnny Woods were all one for four.
Johnny Woods got the win over the Roadrunners working six innings and giving up four runs, three of which were earned, on five hits and seven walks. He fanned five batters. Chris Garrett gave up three runs on four hits and Matt Smith got the save working the final inning and striking our one.
The Bulldogs were to play Show Low on Friday but that game was postponed due to weather as was a double header slated for Saturday against Monument Valley at Kayenta. The weather was unexpectedly severe and even brought snow and led to road closures in northern Arizona.
The Bulldogs were slated to host Tuba City on Tuesday and will host Ganado on Thursday and play Hopi at Polacca on Friday and host Blue Ridge on Saturday, April 16.
