WINSLOW, Ariz. - The Mion Gallery opened its doors on Friday, April 8. The opening celebration was held from 6 to 9 p.m. in the new art gallery on the second floor of the historic La Posada hotel. The Mion gallery is a new space dedicated to the work of Tina Mion, an internationally known painter. The gallery is about 3,000 square feet in size and will rotate Mion paintings every two months.

Mion opened the gallery with a tour of the paintings, explaining the origins and genesis of many of the works. Many canvases are five feet tall and exhibit vibrant colors. Most subjects are rendered in a Surrealist style.

In addition to the Mion Gallery opening, the event also marked the opening of the Winslow Arts Trust and sculpture gallery on the first floor of the hotel. The sculpture gallery opened with "White Elephant Enterprises," a sculpture by Dan Lutzick. The Winslow Arts Trust is a new non-profit organization that works with the Winslow community to create exhibits and programs that illuminate the uniqueness of the Route 66 corridor.
