Playoff bound: Winslow, Holbrook, Monument Valley

The Winslow Bulldogs can claim the 3A North Region Championship with a win over the Monument Valley Mustangs at Kayenta on Friday in the final game of the regular season.

Winslow defeated 4A Flagstaff Coconino 45-14 in a non-regional contest at Flagstaff on Friday. The win improved Winslow's season record to 7-2 with a regional record of 5-0.

Monument Valley lost 43-6 to a tough Snowflake Lobo team from the 3A East Region, The loss left the Mustangs with a 6-3 season record. The Mustangs are 4-1 in the region going into the final game against Winslow.

The Holbrook Roadrunners got an important win at Ganado 42-24 over the Hornets. They improved to 6-3 for the season and finished their regional schedule with a 5-1 record.

Holbrook will meet the Chino Valley Cougars at Holbrook in the regular season finale. The Roadrunners would tie Winslow and Monument Valley for the championship if the Mustangs were to beat Winslow and will finish alone in second if Winslow wins.

The Chinle Wildcats wrapped up fourth place in the region with a surprisingly easy 66-18 win over the Window Rock Scouts at Chinle. The win improved Chinle's record to 5-4 for the season and 2-3 in the region with only Tuba City to meet in Tuba City on Friday.

Window Rock fell to 4-5 for the season and 1-4 in the region with the loss to Chinle. The Scouts will end their season at Ganado. The Hornets fell to 2-6 with their 42-24 loss to Holbrook and are 1-4 in the region.

The Tuba City Warriors fell to 0-8 with a 53-0 loss to the Page Sand Devils and are 0-5 in the region.

It is likely Winslow will host a playoff game with a win at Monument Valley and Holbrook and Monumnet Valley will play on the road.

Blue Ridge defeated Show Low 36-18 in a battle for the top seed of the 3A Conference.
