Monument Valley tops Window Rock to stay in 3A race

The Monument Valley Mustangs defeated the Window Rock Scouts 35-26 in an important 3A North Region game that kept them alive for a possible regional championship should they be able to end the regular season with a win over the Winslow Bulldogs at Kayenta on Oct. 29. A Mustang win would leave both teams with 5-1 records in the region but Monument Valley would claim the title with a victory in the game between the teams tied for the championship unless Holbrook wins its final regional game on Friday at Ganado and creates a three way tie for the championship. That would probably leave the championship to be decided by an unknown method but would likely assure that all three teams would be in the state playoffs. The win improved Monument Valley's record for the season to 6-2 to go with their 4-1 record in the region.

Holbrook defeated the Chinle Wildcats 36-6 at Holbrook on Friday to improve to 5-3 for the season. The Roadrunners improved to 5-3 for the season and 4-1 in the region. Holbrook will be at Ganado to face the Hornets on Friday in their final regional game. They will end the season on Oct. 29 by hosting the Chino Valley Cougars in a non-regional game. A win over Ganado would leave Holbrook either tied with Monument Valley and Winslow or alone in second place in the region depending on the results of the Monument Valley-Winslow game on Oct. 29.

Window Rock fell to 4-4 for the season and 1-3 in the region with their 35-26 loss to Monument Valley. The Scouts are likely out of playoff consideration with the loss. Window Rock will be at Chinle to meet the Wildcats on Friday and finish the season against the Ganado Hornets at Ganado on Oct. 29.

The Chinle Wildcats loss to Holbrook 36-6 likely eliminated them from playoff contention and dropped their record to 4-4 for the season and 1-3 in the region. The Wildcats have a regional game with Window Rock at home on Friday and will close their season at Tuba City on Oct. 29.

The Winslow Bulldogs defeated the hapless Sedona Red Rock Scorpions 48-0 in Winslow on Friday. The win left the Bulldogs with a 6-2 record for the season and a perfect 5-0 mark in the region. Winslow will play its final non-regional game on Friday at 4A Flagstaff Coconino. Winslow will end the season on Oct. 29 at Kayenta in a game against the Monument Valley Mustangs that could decide the regional championship.

The Ganado Hornets defeated the Tuba City Warriors 26-11 at Tuba City on Friday. The win improved Ganado's record to 2-5 for the season and 1-3 in the region. Ganado hosts the Holbrook Roadrunners on Friday and the Window Rock Scouts on Oct. 29 in regional games.

The Tuba City Warriors loss to Ganado 26-11 left them with a record of 0-7 for the season and 0-5 in the region. The Warriors have a home game wit4h the Chinle Wildcats slated for Oct. 29.
