Winslow Bulldogs poised to clinch region title
Other teams continue to battle for playoff berths

The Winslow Bulldogs lead the 3A North Region with a 5-0 regional record and a 5-2 season record after their 41-35 win over the Window Rock Scouts in Window Rock on Friday. The win gives the Bulldogs a definite advantage in the regional race and they could clinch a regional title if Monument Valley fails to win its final regional games. The Bulldogs have non-regional games at home against winless Sedona Red Rock on Friday and at Flagstaff Coconino on Oct. 22 before meeting the Mustangs in their season finale.

The Holbrook Roadrunners remained in second place in the region with an easy 51-0 win over the Tuba City Warriors at Holbrook on Friday. The win improved Holbrook's record to 4-3 for the season and 3-1 in the region. The Roadrunners have an important regional game with the Chinle Wildcats at Holbrook on Friday. A win then should just about wrap up second place and a state playoff berth though they do have a final regional game at Ganado on Oct. 22.

The Monument Valley Mustangs kept their playoff hopes alive and maintained a long shot at a tie for the regional championship with an important 21-14 victory over the Chinle Wildcats at Chinle on Friday. The win left the Mustangs with a 5-2 record for the season and a 3-1 record in the region. The Mustangs have another important game this Friday against the Window Rock Scouts at Window Rock. The winner of that game will likely make the state playoffs with the loser being eliminated.

It is likely that the region will see only three teams advance to the state playoffs and the likelihood is that only Winslow will host a playoff game.

The Chinle Wildcats saw their playoff hopes dealt a serious blow with the loss to Monument Valley 21-14 at home. Chinle is 4-3 for the season and 1-2 in the region with tough games at Holbrook on Friday and against Window Rock at Chinle on Oct. 22. It would take a sweep of all their remaining contests for the Wildcats to reach the playoffs.

The Window Rock Scouts are left with a tough road to make the state playoffs as they fell to 4-3 with the loss to Winslow and 1-2 in the region with losses to both Winslow and Holbrook. They could still make the playoffs but would need to sweep their remaining games which are all on the road at Monument Valley, Chinle and Ganado. Both Chinle and Monument Valley maintain playoff hopes.

The Ganado Hornets were idle and remained 1-5 for the season and 0-3 in the region. They have no playoff hopes and games left against weak Tuba City on Friday at Tuba City and home games against contenders Holbrook and Window Rock.

The Tuba City Warriors remained winless at 0-6 for the season and 0-4 in the region. They will host Ganado on Friday and Chinle in the season finale.
